Melody Brown spent some time on her back
With her lone-star lover name of Harmony Black
One night her daddy found the Pill in her drawer
He said "I ain't gonna let you see that Black boy no more"
And Mellie said,
"I know that one and one makes two"
So she did what she wanted to do
She ran away
"I know that what I feel is true
And I know it must be love"
Mellie stole a pickup and a gun from her Pa
Took Harmony and fled Merced ahead of the law
That night as Harmony was havin' his doubts
He said, "Melody, it seems to me this love won't work out"
And Mellie said
"I know that one and one makes two
And we did what we wanted to do
We ran away
I know that what I feel is true
And I know it must be
I know it must be love
Sometimes you just gotta believe
Put your faith in your heart
And your heart on your sleeve
We had to take that chance
So come on and trust me
I know it must be love"
(SOLO)
Now Melody and Harmony are still on the run
Just hangin' tough and makin' love while under the gun
And any night it seems their flight might come to an end
Then Harmony tells Melody, "Girl, sing it again"
And Mellie says
"I know that one and one makes two"
And they did what they wanted to do
They ran away
"I know that what I feel is true
And I know it must be
I know, I know
I know that one and one makes two"
And they did what they wanted to do
They ran away
"I know that what I feel is true
And I know it must be
So baby just trust me
I know it must be love!
